I can't believe it!

Is it possible that somebody has the balls to give the Brewers and Doug Melvin some props. In an article today at MLB.com, Tom Singer suggests the Crew has the 4th best bullpen in the majors. Holy crap. Hell is here and it has frozen over. It's about time people realize that all of these guys can still pitch. Singer is right in saying a lot rides on Gagne and Mota, but if they just have average seasons, this bullpen is probably still in the top 10 overall. Good stuff.

Akittel...I wonder about Mota and Torres and Still Livin Hernandez and any number of south of the border born players. I think their training techniques early on resembled more of the shovel cow manure Rocky Balboa punch the hanging cow carcass than the private trainers clinic in suburban Dallas. And that would help explain their Bionic Man longevity...like the old timers who were forced to shovel manure..be farmhands in the off season in order to keep ding dongs on the table for the kiddies..Then again, amidst all this babying of pitchers...pitcher counts...specialization, we are witnessing an insane number of 40 year old plus pitchers on starting staffs...Glavine, Maddux, Moyer, Rogers...and who knows how old Still Livin Hernandez is...getting the early nod as opening day Twins starter. Maybe, you could do a story on the difference of opinions with regards to babying pitchers and specialization with the main question being...Does specialization produce better quality pitchers? I think Darwin or whoever preceded him in evolutionary theory proved that specialization enhanced performance...It makes sense when I think about a friend of mine who won't take a step in any direction unless everything is in it's proper place...the right beer glasses...the right chairs...the right lighting...the right music....
