In what everyone is calling a surprise move, the Milwaukee Brewers simply released right handed pitcher Claudio Vargas today. It's frustrating that we got nothing for him, but according to Yost, the market really wasn't biting. My co-worker suggests the Red Sox could really use him because they are buried in injuries right now. Even though he cleared waivers, expect Vargas to be picked up quickly and the Brewers' financial losses to be minimal. Maybe I'll go more into this later, but there's not much to say. Best of luck to you Claudio. You looked poised to have a break out year.
Oh and GO VILLANUEVA AND PARRA! Finally management has made a stand to stick with these young guys. McClung is still out there though, so moves may still be on the horizon.

Big shocker as reading the Varga wire at the bottom of the sports page...A big shocker, but a good and gutsy move by the Crew for the reasons you mentioned Aaron.....a serious committment to Villanueva and Parra.
Villa has been an excellent pitcher for a long time...but I don't need to convince you about this...I'm amazed that there was even any discussion about AAA with Carlos...I was looking at his minor league numbers and he was always well below hits per innings pitched....And last year he was what? 115 innings and 100 hits or something like that...I'm hoping Villanueva quickly establishes himself as an ace...like if Jeff Francis can be a #1 pitcher, so can Carlos...
Why do you think Bush and Villa are always sharing starts in spring training? Is this a sign of things to come when Gallardo returns?
I don't think there's really anything to Bush and Villanueva pitching side by side except for the fact that they're side by side in the rotation. Pretty sad that Dave Bush is our #3 in the eyes of Yost considering he doesn't have that good of stuff and lacks the command Carlos has.
As for Carlos as a #1. Probably a bit of a stretch, but he could be an average #2 or one of the best #3's in the league.
It's fun to think about what will happen when Yo comes back in three weeks. My guess is that Parra is going to get sent down to maintain the depth at the end of the rotation. Somebody has got to be knocking down the door for Seth McClung though. He's a cheap pitcher with high end stuff, but quite rough around the edges. Perhaps the Brewers are trying to increase his trade value.
